Siefried Sassoon's poem "Suicide in the Trenches" is a brief and disturbing comment on innocent soldiers thrown into unbearable trench warfare.
This video uses a recording of Sassoon reading his own poem, and pairs it with a picture of Sassoon and animates the picture. The effect: the video is pretty disturbing, just like the poem! The Saga of Henry VIII*, his Six Wives, his 3 kids, and his very Own Church - parts 1 and 210/21/2014
Part 1 - The church turns down Henry's request for a divorce Part 2 - The English population is 'converted' *Yep, that VIII is the Roman Numeral for Eignt (or in this case we say "eighth"). The "V" stands for five, then there are the three "I"s which are all one SO.... 5 + 3 equals 8. This short piece explains why some ebola victims avoid hospitals and doctors. It is from July, so the death statistic they quote is 700. By now (Sept 12) the number is over 2000. Here is the History Channel's coverage of the Plague from its "History's Turning Points" series. It's quite good, makes important points about the plague's origins, its spread, how the disease affected people, and how individuals and the church responded. It might even help with your homework. Frankly, though, I much prefer this shorter piece which, in less than 3 minutes, leaves a strong impression of the plague's most important impact. Thanks "Horrible Histories". |
